At the beginning of the year, it's easy to set high expectations of yourselves. "Reading is a hobby, and you want to get the maximum enjoyment out of it," Grant said.

Soon enough, I felt more inspired to tackle some of the classics that had been on my list forever. Opting for lighter, easier books that I could tear through in a few days helped me get back into the rhythm of reading regularly. Also, some books are better suited for different moods—the motivational text you read first thing in the morning may not suit your desire for a gripping fantasy novel on the train home from work, and so on. Reading many books at the same time is an extremely effective way to increase the amount you read overall.

If you come across a book that seems like it has bits and pieces that can be beneficial for you, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to read the entire book. Because I am able to choose what I want to read and I am interested in the material, reading is definitely more of a hobby now. “There have been scientific studies where they’ve stuck sensors on to people’s heads, and the areas of the brain that are lighting up and connecting are the same when you’re listening to a story as when you’re reading it yourself.” If you have consistently not found pleasure in reading, then you’re not going to choose reading, because it involves sitting down doing one thing at a time – except if you’re listening to audiobooks. Agency owners share the screen recording tools they actually use — from quick client explainers to full tutorial libraries, and why Loom’s pricing has everyone looking around. And if the accessibility side of it isn’t convincing enough, “Read More” doesn’t tell search engines much about your internal linking either. You press the tab key on your keyboard, expecting to hear a list of post titles read aloud.

Fortunately, there are some easy strategies out there that make reading a whole lot more accessible. As suggested by Reddit user Rendy Anthony, sitting yourself down and making yourself read for 10 minutes each day is a great practice to get into. Perhaps they're rewarding in other ways – they offer fascinating insight, or beautiful prose, or a new way of thinking about things – but you have to stick with the sentences to get there. Keep a book nearby and pick that up when the ads start to roll – you can turn the volume down if they're distracting. Some people who get through dozens of books a year hold the fact that they don't watch a lot of television responsible for their success.
